- Reach. They claim 80M+ users. Whatever the exact number, it is a far larger product than ours, with the maturity that implies.
Where the differences actually bite
Exports: one format versus five
NoteGPT's transcript generator documents a .txt download and copy-to-clipboard. VidWords exports TXT, SRT, VTT, CSV and JSON. If the text is going back onto a video you need SRT or VTT; if it is going into a spreadsheet or a script you need CSV or JSON. Converting by hand is the kind of small tax you only notice on the twentieth video.
A published free quota versus an unstated one
This is the difference we would care most about as a buyer. NoteGPT's transcript page states no limit and their pricing page lists only paid tiers — Pro $9/month ($108/year), Unlimited $19.92/month ($239/year) and Max $69/month ($829/year) — with no free-tier quota published. "Unlimited" with no documented number is a promise you cannot plan against.

Citations that are checked, not just printed
Any AI tool can print a timestamp next to a claim. VidWords Watch verifies each one against stored evidence before you see it — a visual claim has to match a recorded frame within 8 seconds of the timestamp it cites, a spoken one has to land on a real transcript segment, and anything that fails is discarded. When nothing survives, it says the evidence is insufficient rather than guessing. You can check that claim yourself on an unedited demo run rather than taking our word for it.
Watch also reads the video's frames — slides, charts, code, on-screen text — so it can answer questions no transcript contains. That is the part a caption-only summariser structurally cannot do.
A real developer surface
VidWords publishes a REST API with a free token (up to 50 videos per call), an OpenAPI spec, and a hosted MCP server with nine tools so an AI assistant can read and search videos itself. NoteGPT exposes API endpoints for its own app; we found no public developer documentation for them.

The honest summary
If you want one subscription that turns any material — video, PDF, slides, audio — into study output of every shape, NoteGPT covers far more ground than we do and is cheaper at the entry tier. That is a real answer and for a lot of students it is the right one.
